Default Blogs For Kids

Do you think that there would be a market for blogs for children? Perhaps a set up where (for safety) the parent had to sign up and moderate the child's posts before they were visible?

I had thought numerous times about how much I would have loved it if my teachers would assign a blog as a semester-long writing project, but I could see the issues. I imagine it would be a cool idea, but there would be need for heavy moderation on what the children are posting, who is reading, commenting, are private messages able to be sent, etc.

I like the idea, but it would be a lot of work to make it a safe place.

My son uses MySpace for this. I believe you are supposed to be over 14 to officially use the site? He only posts messages for his friends there about what's going on in school or what they plan to do for the weekend. I've been trying to encourage him to start a blog about video games as he loves them. I figure I could help him get Adsense on there and it would give him practice with his writing skills. I told him that I could help with editing even.

I really like the idea of blogs being used for school projects. They are a great way to incorporate technology, language and communication, and whatever subject is being taught. In my last year of high school, my psychology teacher had us comment on his blogs to discuss certain elements from the class. It was a good way to assign homework for that class.

I was never required to do a blog in school - though I wish I was, because I probably would have aced that project without question. :P I was required to post in a class forum about topics that we were studying, though, and I liked that. I remember wishing that we could start individual class blogs.

The obvious risks here of course would be things like grooming and so on. So other than having a parent have to moderate it, what could you do?

Yeah it could be viable but many people restrict their kids usage. Plus most kids do not have the attention span to sit down and read about stuff on a computer when they are younger.

What country are you from? . I have been using the Internet since I was 9 years old. I started blogging when I was 13 I think, so in my country there might be a "market" for young bloggers

I think it would require some heavy moderation on account of the whole "stranger danger" deal. I'm not even most sure parents would allow their kids to keep a personal blog public.

I think blog about the children and from the children is the great idea, but some need to keep the eye on the children about wat they are posting and on which topic are they posting. It should have some interesting topic like on comic books or the animation films were they find interesting things to posts. This also improve there way of writing skills.
