Default When to monetize

How soon should one attempt to monetize their blog? Do you think it's more a matter of a time limit, or a certain number of entries? What sort of popularity do you think is needed?

I think you get out what you put in. I see tons of people that start blogs and forums both too quickly and they do not realize you can not just buy a domain, slap some logo on it and call it a day. Time and effort both come back to you with what you put it, thats just the way the world works.

It might be a little of both depending on what you really want to do with your site. I know some people that just want a ton of visitors and do not care so much about what they make from the site, they just love people that "listen" to them.

I would think that it depends how much effort you are putting into it at the time. If you are working on it a lot, trying to advertise and get traffic coming in then I think you should go for it.

You can monetize your blog on the first day you set up your blog. You can do it by putting adsense and insert some affiliate links in your posts there. However, don't overdo it as people who visit your blog would only come back if you have unique and informative content in it.

My worry is that I will attempt to monetize too soon. I don't want to scare potential readers away. I think that it's best to build up at least a small audience in the beginning.

You're better off getting people used to the monetization right away instead of trying to add it in later. People are used to Adsense or some sort of advertising on blogs these days. As long as you are providing good, unique content viewers won't mind that you're trying to make a buck, too.

I have to agree there. Having people get settled and enjoying your blog without the ads and then putting them in can be off putting. You might even lose a reader or two who doesn't like the ads. Do it from the start and there will be no surprises for anyone.

You made great points about monetizing later and putting off some of my readers. I really think I'm going to get my Adsense going as soon as I can, and see what happens. I guess I don't see the harm in a small blog trying to make a little bit of money too.

So are there any dangers to doing it too soon? I don't see any personally, but are there are any risks, anything that might somehow be a penalty on you for trying too soon?

Well, I had the same question as Froggy and you all have put up excellent answers. So the general consensus is to go ahead and start up the ad sense even though the blog is new and for me at least traffic is pretty light?

I really think you have to wait until your reader base is really solid. If you try to do it before then you are just wasting your effort and anything you gain out of it will not be worth the time. It is better to wait until your gains will be significant.

I worked on a PR3 Celebrity blog site and I've been writing posts for it in the last four months. However, the owner only placed ads earlier this month and has told me that the ads don't really matter if your site lacks content, so placing them when you have enough entries to keep your visitors busy and (hopefully) clicking those ads can reap more rewards.

You should monetize after you have a good amount of content either on the site or to add to the site. If you have 50+ articles in your backlog then make sure you monetize your site before you add them all, though be careful to make sure you have enough articles on the blog so viewers actually do have enough content to look at when they pay your blog a visit.

You can monetize whenever, but generally I believe it is better when you have a decent amount of an audience. That is a great time to monetize and convert those clicks into cash!

Concentrate on writing great content and once you notice a decent amount of visitors browsing your site, start to experiment on monetizing your traffic.

According to me, anywhere around getting 100 unique visitors per day would be an ideal time for starting to put adsense ads in your site/blog. If not unique, 200 visitors per day also would be great !

I agree to Sid. Having a good amount of visitors on your site will be good enough to start monetizing your website.

You can advertize your blog from the first day.It depends of the stream of money you want to get.The best thing to do is to work on your blog content, attract good audience. At this step, it is possible to work with good affiliation program, moreover, you can test companies products and share your experience with your readers.Of course, you will be paid for this
