Directories are a very useful resource when it comes to building links. There are two types of directories, they are paid and free. Some directories will charge you money to list your blog within their directory while there are some that are more than happy to give your blog a free listing in their directory.

One important thing that you need to look at when submitting your blog to directories is the page rank of the directory itself. If you have several links on high PR directories, it’s more likely that you will improve your blog’s PR more quickly. This doesn’t mean that you can’t list your blog with directories that have a PR of 0. It just means that you need to take the page rank into consideration. You need to mix up your directory submissions to include a mix of low PR directories and high PR directories.

There is two ways that you can have your blog submitted to directories. The first one is doing it yourself and saving your money for something else. The second option that you have is to hire someone else to do the directory submissions for you. Submitting to directories is time-consuming, your decision will be based on if you want to spend the time doing it yourself or just pay someone else to save your time.

Comment on other blogs.
This option has a couple of great benefits for your blog. The first benefit is building backlinks. I bet you’re probably already thinking about that one. You will begin being seen as a major player in your niche, that is if you actually leave quality comments. The cause of this is that when you comment on related blogs, you are actually showing the effort to be active within your niche.

Take advantage of social bookmarking sites.
Social bookmarking sites have been known to be a very useful tool for increasing your backlinks and exposure. If your post makes it on the front page of one of the popular social bookmarking sites, you can expect to see a short traffic spike from this event. That’s the best benefit, the other one is providing you with a way that you can build your backlinks. Usually Google looks at links from social bookmarking sites as high quality links, therefore, increasing your chance of receiving a better page rank.
As you can see, building backlinks isn’t really that difficult. It’s just a matter of taking time out of your day in order to build them. Even if you have to take 1 hour out of each day to build backlinks to your blog, this is always better than nothing. Happy backlink building!

Backlinks are simply links that are pointing to your site from another site. For example, a link from BloggersForum.com to TalkSEO.com is considered a backlink for TalkSEO.com
